Celebrities get DUI's too
We live in a celebrity culture where people are dying to know what their favorite star got up to over the weekend. Celebrity DUI’s are shameful and dangerous events for everyone involved. Over the years, however, there have been countless celebrities that have risked their own lives and the lives of others by getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
We have compiled a list of potentially the most famous celebrity DUI's arrests, in hopes we can learn what not to do.
Lohan is probably the first person you think of when you hear the words “celebrity DUI's.” Police have arrested her for a DUI at least four times. She has also been in jail at least six times and spent time under house arrest for 35 days in 2011. She attended rehab for a while in 2007 but received another DUI shortly after.
On July 28, 2006, police pulled Mel over for speeding and found him to be under the influence with an open container. Reportedly, he screamed anti-Semitic slurs at one of the LAPD officers who had pulled him over. Many people consider the incident the "beginning of the end" of his career.
Robert Downey Jr
In 1998 in the city of LA, police arrested Robert for driving under the influence, just one of many incidents related to the actor's struggle with substance abuse.
Cops pulled Hilton over for driving erratically in 2006. They charged her with a DUI and sentenced her to three years’ probation. They also required her to attend an alcohol abuse program and suspended her license. The charge also included fines. She decided to ignore the license suspension and the police sentenced her to 45 days in jail.
Law enforcement pulled Richie over in 2006 and charged her with a DUI.
In 2013, officers arrested Hart after he admitted to police he was driving drunk. It was his only arrest and he later claimed the incident served as a huge wake-up call. Reportedly, he was driving at double the legal speed limit.
The Olympic gold medalist swimmer got a DUI in Maryland in 2014, the second in a 10-year period.
Vince Vaughn is the most recent on our list of celebrity DUI's. Police officers pulled him over in LA on the 10th of June at 12.30am. He allegedly failed an on-site sobriety test but opted to take a blood test rather than submit to a breathalyzer. Vaughn was released from jail later that morning pending a hearing in court at a later date. Media outlets have not since reported any information as to the results of Vaughn’s blood test or his upcoming court date.
